ADAR

Driven by the desire to revitalize rural areas through cultural projects of international impact, the ADAR team works to create activities that invite dialogue and reflection and inspire interest in music and other artistic disciplines.

The Association for the Development of Arts in Rural Areas presents performances by internationally acclaimed musicians during its annual summer concert season, indoors and outdoors. The ADAR team is based on the belief that art, music, architecture and nature are intrinsic to the human experience, making each other more powerful.

WHO ARE ADAR

GUILLERMO LAPORTA

A flutist, composer and designer based in vibrant New York City, Guillermo's outstanding compositions include the opera/film "Architecture of an Ordinary Man" (2023), the ballet/opera "Two Paths" (2020), the opera "Noctum" (2011) and the musical "London The Show" (2009). Critics have celebrated his work, describing it as "stunning staging" (EL PAIS), "an authentic visual and aural experience," "a unique take on classical music" (Times Ledger) and "large-scale set design with a unique visual approach" (I Care if You Listen), and distinguishing it as one of The New Yorker's "outstanding art and music choices."

Guillermo is the Founder, Executive Director and Co-Artistic Director of CreArtBox, a New York City-based music organization celebrated for its artistic innovation, now entering its tenth season. In 2020, he founded the ADAR Festival in Spain, dedicated to fostering the arts in unpopulated areas of the country.

Deeply committed to expanding the flute repertoire, especially in chamber music, Guillermo is dedicated to creating original compositions and transcribing pieces originally composed for other instruments. He has released three studio albums, two of which feature his original compositions for flute and piano.

Guillermo has had the privilege of playing with world-class orchestras, including the BBC Orchestra under the baton of renowned conductors, performing at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall or Lincoln Center, and recording albums for labels such as Warner Music, EMI and Naxos. In addition, he served as co-principal flutist of the Oviedo Philharmonic Orchestra from 2009 to 2012. His formative years included studies at the Royal College of Music (2008-2012) under the tutelage of flutist and conductor Jaime Martín.

JOSEFINA URRACA

Josefina Urraca, a leading Spanish pianist and co-director of CreArtBox and Festival ADAR, has taken her restless and dynamic temperament to the world's leading music schools. Trained by masters such as Dmitri Bashkirov and Maria Joao Pires, she has won accolades for her introspective interpretations and musical splurge, according to Mundo Clasico.

Her career has taken her to prestigious stages, from the Salle Cortot in Paris to Carnegie Hall, and she has participated in classical music programs on Spanish television and radio. With a solid academic background in institutions such as the Escuela Reina Sofía and the Manhattan School of Music, Josefina has received awards from foundations such as the New York State Council on the Arts and the Embassy of Spain.

She also excels in chamber music and is co-artistic director of CreArtBox in New York. The organization, praised by The New Yorker and Time Out, celebrates its tenth season in 2023, consolidating its position as a leader in classical and contemporary music.

Since 2021, together with flutist Guillermo Laporta, he founded Festival ADAR, a platform dedicated to artistic development in rural areas of Spain.
